Be aware that as of February 2026, entry is 100 MAD for foreigners and 30 MAD for Moroccans. Children up to 6 years can enter for free and 7 to 13 at half price. Beautiful and expansive complex in gorgeous surroundings. Very sweet dogs and cats near the cafe, we brought some pet food they were very grateful for. Look closely in between the stones and rocks as you might see turtles!
I was surprised from the beauty of this archeological site, also considering that there were not so many people around. The "Triumph Arch" is stunning, and also the rest of the ruins, even if uncomplete, gives a great idea of the ancient magnificence of the site. Last but not least, there are several mosaic very well maintained. Absolutely worth the price!
This is a day trip from Zerhoun for me. A 10-minute, $4.37 cab ride is the first thing that you get overcharged for as you will be the only one in the grand taxi. The Website states $7.65, but no, the cost of admission is now $10.93, even though nothing has been done to upgrade this place since the Romans left. There is much to love and much to hate about this open air museum. I say just fork out the cash and explore. I spend 5-hours wandering through every nook and cranny of this site. Bring food, water, a hat and sunscreen. At the end, it is time for me to see the visitor center and museum. Nope, closed, which doesn't surprise me one bit as this place is terribly mismanaged. This joint gets 5-stars for what it is and the numbskulls in charge get 0-stars! In order to avoid another expensive cab ride back, I walk a very hot 10-minutes up to the main highway where I flag down a grand taxi that takes me to Zerhoun for 54 cents. On balance, I'm really happy to have had the privilege to see such a wonderful ancient Roman city!
A must visit archeological site and definitely worth the detour from Fes or Meknes! One of the highlights of our trip here in Morocco. Alas, I can only give 4 stars due to the aggressive monetisation of the whole experience. Ticket price is reasonable but the guided tour (bought on the spot) is too expensive (15€/person) and not worth the money. You can read all the information on the official website in 10 minutes while waiting in queue.
Truly a magnificent archeological site! If you love ancient history, you will love Volubilis! Personally, it reminds me of a similar site in Jerash, Jordan. Volubilis has plenty of wonderful mosaics to offer, a glorious Cardo Maximus and Temple of Jupiter! You can easily find a tour guide at the entrance.
The Roman ruins in Volubilis were far better preserved than I expected, and it truly felt like stepping back in time. It was amazing to imagine what life might have looked like during that era. If you don’t book a guide in advance, you can easily hire one at the entrance. Since the site doesn’t have standing buildings like other archaeological sites, I highly recommend going with a guide to really understand what you’re seeing. We wandered around, imagined the ancient scenes, and had such a fun and memorable experience exploring this incredible place.
