Lalla Shafia temple

Accounts differ regarding the origins of Lalla Chafia, and like other female saints, her miracles were exaggerated. Locals say she was a virgin who fled to the mountains to escape the tyranny of her father, Moulay Yaqoub, who tried to force her into marriage against her will. The French orientalist, Jeanne Abelaïd, claims that "angels descended upon the place and took her to the highest mountain peak so she wouldn't be forced into marriage." However, the few oral and written accounts refute this hypothesis and, according to the elders of the Aroussi tribe, confirm Lalla Chafia's connection to the Sahara. It is said that the mother of Sheikh Sidi Ahmed Aroussi was named Lalla Chafia, and that she was of Tunisian origin. She is believed to have been a descendant of the Sicilian nobility who left Sicily for Tunisia to escape Christian attacks, where she married Moulay Omar. It is said that Moulay Omar died before the birth of Sheikh Sidi Ahmed Aroussi, and that his renowned grandfather took him under his wing and raised him. He taught him the Quran and Islamic jurisprudence. The same account adds that the name Shafiya has no relation to healing the sick, but is simply an Arabic name, despite its limited use in the western part of North Africa.
Today I'm climbing to the top of Lalla Chafia for the second time. A wonderful and enjoyable experience with my family ❤️🔥 …
