Visited today, my last day in Morocco after an amazing 6 months. However my experience at the butchers here sadly left a bitter taste. We agreed a price per kg for some turkey breast, a little above what I have paid elsewhere, but I wasn't in the mood to haggle. I ordered 500g, and paid for it. However, when I got back to where I was staying and checked the weight it was only 350g. As we were staying out of town I really didn't want to walk all the way back. But this dishonesty is absolutely disgusting.
Overall it’s ok for a place to get your groceries, would be much better if organized well, Fruits and vegetables are better sold in the alleyway on the right side of the souk, there you can find cheap bio fruit and vegetables cultivated by the local farmers Buying fish and meat is a bit tricky, i would not recommend buying minced meat, and buy fish only early in the morning and know which fish is living in the waters of the town’s water otherwise don’t buy it You can find a spices shop across the street on the other side of the souk.
If you want to buy fish you can find fresh fish, also vegetables and especially graps and apples and figs in the summer. It's not far from the beach. There is a place too for home made bread sellers, women and men selling bread in the street.
Fantastic souke, the produce the fruits incredibly fresh incredibly tasty!! For a small village, everything is available the prices are great and the choices are fantastic. As always the experiences dealing with the folks of Oued Laou is fantastic!! Warm and friendly!!!
